Our Trip to Memphis (Part 2)

On the third day of our trip, we drove out to the Shiloh battle field (about 2 hours outside of Memphis). This was the highlight of the trip for Ben. He LOVES history and he enjoyed reading every sign, plaque, and pamphlet he could find!

We visited the cemetery first.

Here's Ben giving a lecture from the pulpit of a little log church:

Mostly, the boys and I sat in the car while Ben read plaques. One of the times Ben got out, Evan said, "Mom, can you drive for a little while?" :)

The final day of the trip was spent driving home. We stopped half way to eat lunch at a place called Lambert's. It was a really fun place to eat! Besides the meal you order (which comes out in a HUGE portion), they pass around things like fried okra, black-eyed peas, macaroni, etc. The best part, though, is that they actually throw their rolls to you! A guy comes out with steaming hot rolls and he stands at the front of the room and chucks them at whomever raises their hand! They also had a lady paying lively piano music the whole time (think cowboy bar in an old west movie). Asher, our little dancer, danced and wiggled the entire way through his meal!

After we ate, we went down the road to find a park for the kids to run around before we did more driving. We found this park that was dedicated to veterans and the boys were in heaven. You can see why!

Over all, it was an awesome trip! The boys were SO good for us, and we had such a great time!
