Most people who read this blog already know that Ben and I share the same birthday (two years apart) and it always falls near Memorial Day weekend. This year, it was the Thursday before Memorial Day. We didn't do much on Thursday because Ben was at the office all day, but both of our presents arrived in the mail that day! Ben got me the silhouette I've been dying for.

I've already had some fun with it, making thank you cards for the baby shower...

...and prettying up the kitchen a little bit.

Ben picked out a fancy-shmancy skimmer for his fish tank, which he seemed to be excited about. I think he has been a bit weirded out about turning the big 3-0. :)
This year, we decided our birthday weekend was the perfect excuse to squeeze one last date in before baby gets here. It has been forever since we've been on a date and it was really nice to have some time to ourselves!
We spent the afternoon on Saturday at the Seattle Aquarium. Ben has had a real interest in saltwater aquariums for the past couple of years and he's been dying to go check it out. The exhibits were pretty cool and we both really enjoyed it.

This octopus was huge! I wish I had gotten Ben in the picture as a size reference.

This puffer fish was huge, too... like 3 feet long!

They had a room that was a big dome with fish swimming all around and over us.

The usual exhibits were cool, but I was really excited that they also had seals and otters! They were really fun to watch.

This guy (gal?) kept swimming over to the crowd and standing straight up like this to stare at us before swimming away again.

After the aquarium, we walked along the waterfront for a bit.

Then, we ended the night with dinner at Red Robin. I love their strawberry lemonade with the real strawberries in in it. Mmmm....
It was still early when we went to pick up the kids, so we decided to go see Kung Fu Panda 2. The only time that worked for us was the 3D time, so the boys and I saw our very first 3D movie.

What a perfect way to spend my birthday... a date with my man AND some quality time with my boys. :)
Memorial Day was pretty low key for us. They opened the pool in our complex for Memorial Day weekend, so we were hoping to use it, but it was cloudy and cold. We went for a hike instead.

The boys thought it was great... especially since we stopped for them to throw rocks in the river. I'm proud to say that I did really well with the hike, too. Even on the uphill parts. I'll admit I was pretty sore afterwords, but it was worth it.
It was so nice for Ben to have a day off to be home with us. I think we all enjoyed that part of Memorial Day the most. :)
